Our baby, Cooter, is a Mastiff/Rottweiler mix that is now 6 years old. We got him when he was 8 weeks old and 18 pounds. I was working at a veterinary hospital at the time when a client came in with 6 adorable puppies for their first vaccinations. The client had rescued the mom and was now looking for loving homes for the puppies. I immediately fell in loving and had to have one.
Cooter has been an AMAZING gentle giant that has won the heart of everyone he meets. He loves to cuddle, swim, play ball or just hang out with his best friend Boss (our 1 year old French Bulldog). Cooter was even the ring bear in our wedding. He as been extremely athletic and healthy his whole life until December 2007. Just before Christmas Cooter started limping slightly on his left rear leg. I thought he just landed on it wrong, but something inside told me to have radiographs done. The radiographs were taken and on December 26, 2007 he was diagnosed with cancer.
Due to his large size of 145 pounds, the recommendation of his vet, and my knowledge as a veterinary technician we decided to just keep him comfortable and not to biopsy or amputate. He has been doing great on Previcoxx and Tremadol up until the beginning of May 2008. We are now seeing him become more painful, decrease his activity, and swelling increase.
The last 3 weeks have been hard, but I am so thankful for this website and the support it provides. We are just taking every day one step at a time and cherishing the moments we still have with him.
