Metronomic Protocol
Metronomic : low dose, continuous timed intervals
The metronomic protocol can be used at all stages. No amputation, maintenance protocol (with or without chemo), and the onset of lung mets. Individual components can be given as stand-alone.
Major components:
- Anti-inflammation
- Oral chemotherapy agent
- Anti-angiogenesis
- Bisphosphonates
The two most common protocols are called the “Navy Protocol” and what is generically called the “metronomic protocol”.
The Navy Protocol
- Celecoxib (Celebrex, the arthritis drug)
- Tamoxifen (known for breast cancer treatments)
- Doxycycline (tetracycline antibiotic)
Note: I heard that celebrex is not showing great tolerance with dogs.
The Metronomic Protocol (more common)
- Piroxicam, Deramaxx, Metacam, Rimadyl (NSAIDs)
- Cyclophosphamide
- Doxycycline
- Fosamax
